Frequently Asked Questions

Below is a list of answers to questions I am frequently asked.

Do you write and officiate online (Zoom) ceremonies?

Weddings must be done in person for legal reasons, but I do offer other services via Zoom! Whether it be a celebration of life, baby dedication or other special life event, I write and officiate online ceremonies. For weddings, I offer online planning sessions over Zoom. See each of the individual service pages for more information.

Weddings

We are from different religious backgrounds.  Can you create a wedding ceremony for us?

Creating a ceremony that combines two different religious backgrounds is one of my favorite things to do!  My degree in Anthropology has contributed to my endless fascination with rituals from diverse cultures and belief systems.  Once we discuss the aspects most important to each of you, I will collaborate with you to create a ceremony that honors your heritage and religious beliefs.

celebrations of life

We would like a non-religious but spiritual service.  Is that something you can create?

Absolutely yes.  The most important aspects of the service for your loved one are sharing the story of his/her/their life, and meaningful memories and anecdotes from family and friends.  A period of silence can be a meditation for some, a prayer for others, depending on your guests' beliefs.  Together, we will work to prepare a ceremony that honors the person who has passed in a way that feels right to you.

Child Dedications

We want to celebrate the birth of our child and include adults who will be important mentors without having a traditionally religious ceremony.  Can you help us with that?

Yes, that is something I love to do.  In my Unitarian tradition, we have child dedication ceremonies with adult sponsors.  The ceremony welcomes the child with 4 elements: Earth, Air, Water, and Fire. This is one of many options we can explore together.

How do you personalize the ceremonies?

You will receive a detailed questionnaire to fill out.  If this is for your wedding, you will each fill out your questionnaire individually.  I use the information you share to create a unique and personalized ceremony.

We are not particularly religious.  Do you create and officiate weddings for folks like us?

Indeed I do!  When we have our initial consultation, let me know what kind of ceremony feels most comfortable to you, and I will work with you to create a service that reflects your beliefs and values.

What prep work might we need to do before you create a ceremony for us?

You will be given a personal questionnaire, a list of practical questions, sample readings, and vows.  Once you return all of those responses to me, I can write a unique ceremony tailored to your preferences.

How much does it cost for you to design and officiate our wedding?

Every ceremony is different (length of the service, type, number of rituals, etc.) and I take everything into consideration when determining my fee.  Fill in the inquiry form with your details and I can get back to you with a personalized quote!

What do you wear to officiate the ceremony?

I like to match the colors you have chosen for your ceremony, so please do let me know what they are!  You can see pictures of me presiding at multiple weddings on my photo gallery page.

Where are you based and how far do you travel to officiate ceremonies?

I am based in Cary, North Carolina and I try to stay within about an hour's drive of home for in-person ceremonies.  However, I do make exceptions for special circumstances, so please don't hesitate to share your situation. Virtual ceremonies allow me to officiate ceremonies almost anywhere. Please communicate your location in the inquiry for for your particular service.

Is there a travel fee?

For in-person ceremonies more than 30 miles away from my home in Cary, there is a one-time travel fee of $50 to cover my fuel and drive time.
