About Alison
I am an ordained minister through the Universal Brotherhood Movement and can legally officiate weddings in the state of North Carolina. I grew up in a family that forged its own unique spiritual path: I’m the daughter of a Jewish father and a Catholic mother, whose loving relationship eventually led them to broaden and grow their beliefs to encompass teachings from many faiths. They encouraged me to explore a multiplicity of spiritual choices while still honoring my roots in both traditions.
I attend the Unitarian Universalist Church, which embraces spiritual pluralism, moral choices distilled from the doctrines of many faiths, respect for our interdependent web of life and for every human being. I am committed to developing a creative, individualized ceremony that celebrates your one-of-a-kind relationship and fits your personalities and needs. I have been performing weddings since 2002.
I hold double degrees in English Literature and Anthropology, and when I’m not performing ceremonies, I’m a published poet (https://alisonhurwitz.com), wife, and mother of two wonderful sons. The unique ceremonies I design include rituals that reflect the many cultures represented here in the Triangle Area, readings from great writers, thinkers, theologians and poets, a generous measure of humor, and the involvement of close friends and family. Each event is tailored both to the place and to the individuals for whom I write the ceremony.
I love writing original ceremonies! I make a point of working closely with you to produce a service that is ultimately an expression of who you are, what you believe in, and the choices you want to embrace.
I look forward to helping you create your own unforgettable ceremony.
